Old Politicians and New Ideas

By Gayla Jones of One Stop Costume Shop

Here at the end of 2008, we are all patiently awaiting the new policies and procedures of our newly elected officials. As each day goes by, more and more people are experiencing issues with the waivering economy, questions about the war and many other issues that have built up during the past 50 years.

In my own opinion, I feel that we have let too many career politicians stay in office much too long. This has led to the same old norm, year after year until we have allowed things like the Wall Street breakdown, lobbyists giving too much money and politicians giving and taking too many favors.

We need new blood with new ideas in Washington. You can look at today's companies and see the difference in those that have decided to add new blood and allow themselves to be pointed in new and different directions. These are the new mega corps. On the other end of the spectrum are the Detroit car companies. They have not changed in decades and they are suffering for it now.

I once worked for a GM car dealer in the repair department. In the entrance to the shop there was a sign stating that today's automobiles have more electronic technology and parts than the first Apollo moon mission. Now, with all of the improvements and advances in technology today, are the companies trying to tell us that they can not build an electric car or come up with more economical power solutions? Or is it that they don't want to do it until they have their fingers into this new technology and have the largest piece of that pie? Instead of bailing out the big three, let's give that money to the new and upcoming electric car companies and let them get their new ideas up, running and affordable for us.

I think it all comes back to getting new fresh blood and experience into the government. The new ideas are out there and we should be looking to and supporting the future, not paying off the past.
